Sunday evening, April 5, 2009, ten talented, up-and-coming Denver designers from the Emily Griffith Opportunity School Fashion Design Program put on their first fashion show of the year at The Holiday Inn at Wadsworth and Hampden.
The models strolled down the runway to the resounding cheers of a standing room only audience of 200 people. The designs for women included club wear, gowns, career wear and sportswear. The styles ranged from avant garde to conservative. Bea Kahn Wilhite, Fashion Group International Regional Director, praised the students for both their creativity and the presentation of the fashion show.
The students are members of the Emily Griffith Opportunity School student chapter of Fashion Group International. They conceived the fashion show as a fundraiser for their educational trip to Fashion Magic Show in Las Vegas August 2009. They deserve kudos for doing the entire event on their own which was a momentous task. It included securing the site, promoting the show, designing and sewing the garments, finding models and worrying. They need not have been nervous. The night of the show their fashions, joie de vivre and models charmed the audience.
The students are extremely grateful to the Holiday Inn Lakewood management for their kindness and generosity and to the Reverend Calvin Hall, a prominent Denver designer, for his advice and assistance. The event could not have been successful without the support of the students families, friends and teachers.
