GED Preparation and Adult Basic Education

Thank you for inquiring about the Emily Griffith Opportunity School GED preparation and Adult Basic Education classes. These classes are appropriate for individuals who are preparing for the GED test or who need to enhance their reading, math and writing skills. This class is also appropriate for Colorado Firefighter, Police Officer, and Deputy Sheriff job applicants to brush-up on academic skills.

Classes are:

  • self-paced

  • offered continuously throughout the year (except August)

  • instructor supported

  • offered with a variety of instructional methods including:

    • computer-based

    • textbook-based

    • on-line

  • offered at five locations

  • $35 for 90 class-hour increments (45 class-hours for Saturdays)

Steps to Get Started:

  1. Plan your Class Schedule:

  2. Fill out a free application:

    • at Emily Griffith Opportunity School

    • at off-site locations during regular class times shown on the GED Class Schedules.

  3. Take a reading and math test:

    • A valid government-issued picture ID is required.

    • Testing will take approximately 2 1/2 hours.

    • Testing times at Emily Griffith Opportunity School: Monday & Thursday 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday & Wednesday 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Friday 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

    • Testing for off-site classes is offered at the class times shown on the GED Class Schedules.

  4. Register for the classes:

    • in the Registration Center at Emily Griffith Opportunity School.

    • at off-site classes during class times shown on the GED Class Schedules.
