Allow 3 hours for testing
The two parts of the assessment test may be completed on different days
Test only when you are feeling healthy and rested.
Passing scores for practical nursing are: 12.0 or higher Reading on a timed TABE A and 80% or higher on the Practical Nursing Math Exam. Students will receive test scores after testing.
Repeat tests without remedial courses are $5. There is a three-week waiting period between retakes. After the first retake, individuals must complete a remediation course on the topic area to be tested before testing for a third time. Remediation courses are available for $120 at Emily Griffith Opportunity School. Assessment tests for the practical nursing program from other schools are not accepted. Call 720 423- 4712 to review your test scores and develop your class schedule.
Remedial reading (REA 030, 060 and 090) are advised for scores below the practical nursing requirements of 12.0 Reading on a timed TABE A. Remedial math courses (MAT 030 and/or MAT 060) are advised for scores below the 80% score on the Nursing Math Exam. Retesting is required upon completing the remedial courses. Repeating remedial courses may be necessary.
Complete Nurse Aide Certification (CNA)
If you are current Colorado Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), skip to Step 5 the ENG 121 information.
If you do not have a current Colorado Nurse Aide Certification you will need to enroll in Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide training courses (NUA 101 and 170). You may enroll in NUA 101 and 170 while you are enrolled in remedial reading courses for the nursing program.
Schedule your Nurse Aide certification exam with the State Board of Nursing as soon as possible. Currently the testing is done through
www.PearsonVue.com for $95.
ENG 121 Business Composition
This course will be offered daytime only at 9-week intervals including start dates in Sept., Nov., Feb., April. Students complete 45 hours of class time with a flexible schedule 8 am. to 1 p.m. Monday-Friday. Students must attend the first day and the weekly one-hour lecture from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Monday or Tuesday. A challenge test is available. Credits for ENG 121 and higher may be accepted from any Colorado community college.
HPR 178 & HPR 108
When you have a reading score of 12.0 or higher, you may enroll in medical terminology/ HPR 178 and dietary nutrition/ HPR 108. To challenge HPR 178 or HPR 108, contact the adviser 720 423 4717, to set up a testing time.
BIO 106
When you have a reading score of 12.0 or higher, you may enroll in Anatomy and Physiology/ BIO 106. Some community colleges do not accept BIO 106 as transfer credit from Emily Griffith Opportunity School however it may be transferable into Emily Griffith Opportunity School (if taken within the Colorado Community College system). Completion of BIO 201and 202 are accepted as meeting the BIO 106 requirement. To challenge BIO 106, 720-423-4717, to set up a testing time.
Course Challenge Exams
Challenge exams are available for all prerequisites courses. Please consult with your adviser to discuss if this is an option for you.
Transferring Credits
Courses taken within the Colorado Community College system may be accepted for grades of C or higher if they are within the required time frames of 5-7 yrs. Students must take a minimum of 13.5 credits from EGOS to be granted a certificate of completion if they are transferring in credit from another Nursing Program.
Pre-Admission Meeting and Transcripts
When you have a reading score of 12.0 or higher, @li you will start a portfolio and checklist of your requirements including all the documents required to start the practical nursing program for the next available start date.
Official transcripts should be mailed to yourself, but should remain unopened and added to your portfolio.

The Financial Aid Office at Emily Griffith Opportunity School is located in the registration area.

Payment Plans
Courses longer than 2 months may be paid in installments for a charge of $20 per semester. Short courses must be paid in full at the time of registration. Contact the Treasurers Office, Room 239; phone 720-423-4786 for payment plan.
