Cultural Competency Training

What is Cultural Competence?

Cultural competence refers to an ability to identify, understand and respect different behaviors, lifestyles, and norms across cultures. The importance of cultural competence is to encourage a positive and effective work environment in cross-cultural situations. The four key components of cultural competence include awareness, attitude, knowledge and skills. Your staff will learn about the importance of each area in our extensive training.

Achieving Cultural Competence in the Work Setting

An organization that represents a variety of cultures in its staff is an important start to achieving cultural competence. However, cultural competence requires agencies to have a defined set of values and principles, and demonstrate behaviors and policies that enable them to work effectively across cultures. Organizations must foster continual education and assistance in adapting the workforce to be more respectful, effective and appropriate to each other and diverse populations.

We offer cultural competency classes for both foreigners and citizens. Customized cultural training will educate your staff about:

  • Expectations of both foreigners and citizens

  • The difference between an immigrant and a refugee

  • Colorado Immigration overview and statistics

  • Why newcomers are perceived as not accessing important services

(or not accessing them the "right way")
