Work Intensive Skills Camp (WISC)

Work Intensive Skills Camp (WISC) is a four-week intensive training program designed to offer low-level English speakers the skills needed to be successful in their first jobs here in the U.S. WISC is open for refugees and individuals receiving Temporary Assistance for Need Families (TANF). The program was designed in 2006 and has successfully trained over 1,000 graduates.

Job Shadow Opportunities

During their final week, students job shadow one of our many community partners. Students are placed at local job sites that are specific to their skills and career goals. Job shadowing proves an invaluable opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience of day-to-day operations in a real-time work setting. Referrals and Enrollment

Referrals are due one week prior to the scheduled orientation. To enroll a student into WISC, Case Managers and Employment Specialists should complete the C.A.R.E.S. referral form and send to:

  • June 25 to July 26, 2021 (Orientation: June 20)

WISC offers hands-on job skills training is combined with instruction on work place skills. Students learn the importance of team work, problem solving, active listening, reliability, promptness, interview techniques and common expectations of the American workplace.

Training tracts include:

  • Cashiering

  • Laundry

  • Housekeeping

  • Basic Office Skills

  • Food and Restaurant Service

  • Customer Service
