Remembering Graduation

Whether you graduated from grade school, high school, trade school, college or other, you remember the feeling of accomplishment … and for some relief. At Emily Griffith Technical College, each year approximately 5,000 students reach the finish line at one of three graduations. Emily Griffith graduate Warren Ramos, illustrates vividly how graduation felt to him at the recent graduation ceremony. Do you remember your graduation?

“Our diplomas are like torches that will light the darkness and lead us on our way,” Warren Ramos, Emily Griffith Graduate in Early Childhood Education.

Excerpts from Ramos’ graduation speech:

“No one can take whatever you have learned in this school. The knowledge and experiences we journeyed together will always be instilled in our hearts and minds. If we fall, stand up. If we fall again, stand up again. That, I think is the essence of learning. Never stopping!

“When I first enrolled in the school, I was apprehensive because I asked myself, why in the world do I have to do this stuff again at this age? Take an exam? Fill in those forms? Why do I have to endure all of these? But as I walk the halls of the school, I have come to realize that I was here because I wanted to learn. I wanted to increase my knowledge. I wanted to pursue my dream. I wanted to finish something. I want to be proud of myself.

Lastly, Miss Emily Griffith – the founder of the Technical College. Without her, all of our dreams would not have come true. Miss Emily Griffith, wherever you are, we are truly indebted to all your endeavors and efforts. Miss Griffith’s dream is not only contained in the four corners of the school but extends beyond, influencing our lives to its betterment. Ninety-three years ago, Emily Griffith Technical College’s motto still truly holds up to this day for all of us – For All Who Wish To Learn.
