Credit by Examination or Test Out
Students may receive Credit by Examination by taking a comprehensive examination that demonstrates competence equivalent to learning achieved in a course offered by a college. See department advisor for list of classes. Once a student enters a class, he/she may not take a challenge test for that class. Students may take an exam only one time for each course.
Challenge Examination for Prerequisite Class/es Procedure:
Meet with department advisor
Complete request for examination application form
Request from advisor a time to test that fits with department scheduling
Pay $15 to take challenge test for prerequisite class(es)
Take test grade is either pass or fail.
A pass does not factor into GPA.
Receive test score from department advisor
Prerequisite classes are not placed on student transcript
Challenge examinations from other schools are not accepted
If a student does not pass test, he/she must take course at full cost. No amount of money from the test-out will apply to actually taking the class.

Prior Learning Credit
Prior learning credit may be earned for a maximum of 15 credits by documentation of the following:
College-level learning that entails knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of prior learning experiences such as:
Work or life experiences
Correspondence and extension courses
Individual study and reading
Community and volunteer work
Participation in informal course and in-service training sponsored by associations, business, industry, and government.
Application Procedure for Prior Learning Credit:

Complete request for prior learning credit form

Complete project/portfolio

Transfers
Earn your Associates Degree
Credits from our technical courses are transferable to other Colorado public community colleges. Starting your education at Emily Griffith Opportunity School can be the easiest and most cost-effective way to start earning your Associates Degree (AAs).
Credit transfers to any of the Colorado public community/junior colleges including the six metro area community colleges - Aims, Arapahoe, Front Range, Red Rocks, Aurora, and Denver.
Up to 42 semester credits of a state approved Emily Griffith career/technical program may be credited to the community colleges AAS Degree in Applied Technology.
The student must complete at least 15-18 hours of academic courses at the community college.

Transfer to Opportunity School
Students may transfer credit(s) from other college(s) to Emily Griffith Opportunity School by requesting an official transcript from previous college(s).
Emily Griffith will accept transfer credit from postsecondary institutions that are accredited by one of the six regional accrediting associations: North Central Association, Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Transfer credits may also be accepted from Community Colleges of Colorado-approved institutions for credits that are applicable to a certificate program and meet the certificate requirements in comparable or equivalent EGOS program(s).
Credits must be earned in the previous five to ten calendar years. (See program manager for special circumstances.)
One-third of the credit hours in a program need to be completed at Emily Griffith Opportunity School.
Transferring in Procedure :
Request official transcript(s) from previous school(s).
Transcripts from international institutions must be submitted in the native language along with certified English translations.
Issuing institutions should address transcripts to EGOS Student Records, 1250 Welton Street, Denver, CO 80204. Documents become the property of the school and will not be released to the student or transferred to other institutions.

Meet with your Advisor
Before entering class or program, meet with appropriate department advisor who will evaluate transcript(s) to determine how accepted transfer credits will apply to intended program.
Evaluation of transcript(s) may take up to two weeks.
Register for class
Emily Griffith reserves the right to evaluate all credits according to its admissions and registration policies.

Request a transcript in person at the Student Records Office or via mail at 1250 Welton St., Denver, CO 80204.
Official transcripts are $3.00 payable in check, cash or money order.
Please allow five business days to process the request.
Transcripts will not be released to students with unmet financial obligations.
A transcript is official only if it bears the seal of Emily Griffith Opportunity School and the signature of the student records officer.
Transcript information is confidential and can only be released to certain officials, institutions, prospective employers, etc., upon receipt of a record release form signed by the student.

Request a GED Transcript
Two kinds of official records are available to persons who have tested and/or received a GED high school equivalency diploma in Colorado: transcripts and duplicate diplomas. Both are official documents and bear the State Seal. The fee for duplicate diplomas and transcripts is $15. To obtain a transcript and/or a duplicate diploma, submit either a completed
GED Request Form or a written request containing the following information:
Name at the time the test was taken and current name, if different
Date of birth
Social Security Number
Where and when the GED Tests were taken
Specify type of record--transcript and/or duplicate diploma--and the number of copies
Address to which the record(s) should be sent
Signature of the GED candidate or recipient
Write YES or NO in the upper right hand corner of the request in answer to the following question: Were you ever a student in a Colorado public school?
Request for duplicate GED diplomas and copies of GED transcripts are to be sent to:
