Financial Aid

Emily Griffith Opportunity School offers eligible students financial assistance through:

Federal Pell Grant

To be considered for financial aid at Opportunity School, including the Federal Pell Grant, Colorado Need Based Grant, and Colorado Work Study, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid ( FAFSA) every academic year ( www.fafsa.ed.gov).

Students need to enroll in a Pell-eligible program. A listing of the eligible programs is available in the Financial Aid Office.

A student needs to attend one month before he/she is eligible for funds. The first disbursement will be at least six weeks after enrollment begins.

State Funded Assistance

Students must have lived in Colorado for at least one year and meet other eligibility requirements of FAFSA. Applications are the same for the Pell Grant. Funding is limited.

Colorado Work Study

Applicants need to be enrolled in a Pell-eligible program at least halftime. Participants earn money toward their training expenses by working part time. The Financial Aid Office attempts to place students in assignments that enhance their training. Funding is limited.

Emily Griffith Foundation Scholarships

Emily Griffith Foundation Scholarships are available to students who complete an application. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and a good attendance record, plus write a thank you note. Applications are available from a student advisor.

Financial Aid Rules and Regulations

Students need to be prepared to pay initial costs (25% of tuition and fees plus 100% of books and materials) with their own funds since these types of financial aid do not provide immediate assistance.
Students may be able to receive more than one type of assistance. All financial aid is for undergraduate students. Federal and State student aid is awarded on a one-year basis. The award period begins with the start of the fall session and ends in July at the completion of the nine-month school year (mid-July to mid-July.) Students may apply for and receive financial aid during more than one award period. Financial aid students need to follow all rules and regulations of Emily Griffith Opportunity School. Academic Progress A student must maintain a C average or better or P in a Pass/Fail course. Measurable Progress A student needs to demonstrate that he/she is making measurable progress toward program completion. A student may have 120 percent of program length to complete a program. For instance, a nine-month program may be completed in 10.8 months. Progress is measured on a monthly basis. AttendanceA student needs to meet the attendance policy for the program area. Attendance policies vary among departments, minimum is 80%.
