Executive Director Jeff A. Barratt

Jeff A. Barratt became Executive Director at Emily Griffith Technical College in July of 2010, bringing a wealth of experience to the post.

Barratt, formerly the Dean of Instruction at the largest community college in the state, Front Range Community College, brings to the post a blend of experience in education and industry. At Front Range, Barratt directed career and technical education programs, was interim dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Humanities and Fine Arts, and had oversight of the Brighton Center, which delivered FRCC classes to the Brighton community.

Prior to Front Range, Barratt served as the Colorado Community College System Dean of Career and Technical Education for the state of Colorado, and served as the Dean of the School of Trades and Technology at San Juan College in Farmington, N.M. Barratt also held the positions of Director of Off-Campus Programs and the Regional Technical Education Council at Crowder College in his home state of Missouri.

In addition to his prowess in the education arena, Barratt brings a wealth of industry experience having spent 16 years working in the manufacturing sector in various production and sales positions.

"I'm honored to take over as executive director of a time-honored institution in the Denver community," Barratt said. "In my capacity as executive director, it is my goal to do whatever I can to facilitate the recognition of Emily Griffith as the premier technical college in the State of Colorado and an innovator of Career and Technical Education programming."

Barratt takes over one of the most long-standing educational resources in Denver with over 1.5 million graduates in the metro area. With an annual enrollment of approximately 10,000, Emily Griffith Technical College is one of three public Area Vocational Schools charged with providing career and technical education for the state. The school provides affordable education in accredited programs in over 40 certificate programs and 21 apprenticeships that can lead to high paying careers or guaranteed transfer to any of the state's community colleges towards an associates of applied science degree.

Barratt holds a bachelor's degree in English from Missouri Southern State University and a master's degree in technical teacher education from Pittsburg State University. He is in the process of completing an ABD in higher education leadership at the University of Arkansas. Barratt lives in Denver with his wife Lisa, a Denver native. The couple has six grown children, and one grandchild between them.
